Holas los amigos, i just arrived from an incredible trip in Nepal. I spent 3 months wondering in Pohkara, the Annapurnas (trek), Chitwan (south/jungle) and Kathmandu. I would have stayed much longer, but the political situation was getting a little to heavy for me with the curfews at night, strikes and bombs.
With all the luggage that i've accumulated and the equipment that i bought, i tought it will be a better idea to fly to Singapore and then decide what will come next.
When i think about the purpose of my trip 6 months ago, i never tought i will come back with so much rich experiences. The yoga quest i was going for has been postponed and instead i choosed to learn to fly! The first time my feet left the ground, i knew that flying will become a new passion.
Few weeks ago, i did 10 days training course to learn the basic and i kept on practicing ever since. I was part of the Paragliding competition in mid-January, for fun and to gain more experience. Its been the case.... i tried my first cross-country flight and ended-up the other side of the ridge, not the greatest and safest place to be... I had to do an emergency landing in the bushes and trees!!! The locals from the village near by came to help me to pack my glider and drove me back by motobike to the take-off for the second flight of the day. I guess i needed more action! So the second flight, i landed really close to the lake with both feet in the mud. I started to sink, up to my knees and fell face forward in it! The Nepales were just laughing at me instead of giving me a hand to get out of there. What a day! I didn't hurt myself, but i learned from the experience and i know what to do next time.
For the last month, I had the chance to do 8 tandem with different instructor over Sarangkot (main flying place in Pokhara) and in some remote places like Chitwan or Sirkot. Those trip were the most amazing days i spent in Nepal. I discovered that travelling with a paraglider can bring you almost anywhere you want or don't want if you are not cautious... Its a great way to travel and to have real contact with the people from remote villages.
I leave Nepal with a total of 36 big flights on my own and a competition and an SIV course. That's much more than what i can achieve in Canada in one season. I just learn that BC, Alberta and Quebec are great for flying. For those of you who want's to know more about it, have a look at the school i was in Nepal "Blue Sky Paragliding" website:http://www.paragliding-nepal.ch/
I post lots of pictures on yahoo photo, so let me know if you want me to send you the link.
See you soon,
Magali xxxx
