Monday started out with a 30 Km wrong turn that took us to the Terry Fox Monument.  Two days of driving took their toll and I was really tired.  After stopping in Ignace, Ontario for lunch, Allison took the wheel for almost 2 hours to Kenora which allowed me my second wind.  What a help it is to have another driver!  We arrived in Winnipeg in good time around 6:30 pm and met up with Cecile.  After bringing us to her house and feeding us, she took us to the local mall for the last hour of shopping time and then on a quick driving tour of St. Boniface.

Tuesday Cecile took the day off to show us around.  We started out at "The Forks" and walked the Esplanade Riel.  The kids (okay, me too) went to the Sugar Mountain Express which is an old train that doubles as a candy store.  Allison and Melissa paid $5 each for chocolate frogs!  Next was a quick walk around the St. Boniface Parliament Building and then on to the St. Boniface Cathedral where Louis Riel is buried.  The Cathedral burnt down in the 60s and only the stone face remains.  A modern structure has been built in behind it.

Tuesday evening Cecile had friends over to meet me.  After a beer and some nice conversation, I was exhausted and went to bed.

Wednesday, Canada Day, started out at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.  July 1st is the only day there is no charge.  We walked around the zoo for the morning and took a train ride in the early afternoon.  Cecile brought us back to her place where we did some of our laundry and just relaxed until it was time to go back to The Forks for fireworks.  The sun doesn't set very early in Winnipeg so the fireworks got underway around 10:45 until about 11:15.  Very nice!!  It took us an hour to get out of the parking lot though!

Thanks Cecile for being a fantastic hostess and tour guide.  We'll be seeing you again on the 20th.  :o)
