Where I stayed
BARGARA - July 15th - 25th, 2011
We had a very relaxing ten days here. It is beautiful spot and the weather, apart from the first day, was just perfect. 23 degrees most days, although a little windy, and chilly at night. As we had been here near Bundaberg before we didn't do any sightseeing, just really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.
We were right on the beach and the walking track into the little village was about 1.2km which we did most days. A great spot for coffe, a yummy breakfast one morning at Kacy's, and a beautiful trip to Mira's Cafe at the strawberry farm where we enjoyed fresh strawberry pancakes. Just as well we went walking every day.
Bundaberg (Bargara) is certainly part of an amazing food bowl with beautiful, lush, rich soil and an absolute abundance of sugar cane farms, strawberry and avocado farms, etc. Unfortunately the rain earlier in the year has all but ruined the sugar cane crops, and delayed the strawberry season. They were just starting to pick as we left! What a shame as the strawberries here are to die for.
There is also a great walking track at the back of the park out to Mon Repos Beach, which is the largest Turtle Rookery in Australia for nesting loggerhead turtles. Unfortunately we were not here at the right time either for the nesting or hatching, but would love to see it one day. It would be just wonderful.
We are now on the homeward stretch unfortunately.
