TOWNSVILLE - June 28th - July 1st, 2011

It poured all the way on the trip until about 50klm out of Townsville. We stayed at Rowes Bay Caravan Park, but it was windy and overcast the whole time we were there so headed down to Airlie Beach.  Too windy to get out to Magnetic Island unfortunately which is why we called back into Townsville.  Ah well maybe next time.

AIRLIE BEACH - July 2nd - 9th, 2011

A further 300km along the Bruce Highway to Airlie Beach.  Unfortnately the first two days were wet and very overcast, but it did get better - in fact it got much better and we enjoyed the next 5 days with warm and sunny days and very mild nights.  Very friendly people here and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We enjoyed some beautiful walks along the walkway which is about 5km long connecting Airlie Beach with Cannonvale and passing marinas and the Coral Sea all the way.  Just beautiful.

We had a great day out on a cruise to Whitehaven Beach, visit to a lookout and then snorkelling in Mantaray Bay.  The weather was just perfect and the ocean was like glass.  Whitehaven Beach is just beautiful with brilliant white sand, and the ocean is just so clear and blue.  There was a barbie on the beach and we had a couple of goannas for company.  We just had the best day and felt like we were in paradise.

Another leisurely day was spent heading out to Lake Prosepine which also was just so idyllic - very peaceful with hardly anyone around.

A few more lazy days, lolling around the lagoon/pool on the beachfront, walking along the walkway, dinner out at the pub across the road (State of Origin again) and lots of chatting to people from all over the world.  It never ceases to amaze us how many people visit Australia from overseas - mainly young ones but not always.  Certainly must help our economy a lot.
