LEMON TREE PASSAGE, PORT STEPHENS - August 22nd - 24th, 2009
We did remember from our last trip that there was a great pie shop on the way "somewhere" between here and Port Macquarie, and unfortunately, we found it after we had only been on the road for half an hour. However, we couldn't resist the temptation and had Fredo's pies for morning tea! How decadent!!
This is our last stop before home, and what a pretty place. We stayed at the Discovery Holiday Park and it is just so quiet and peaceful, we are right on the water, and the weather has been asolutely fantastic. I have taken a photo of our ensuite whilst here, as some people seem to have difficulty with the concept of having our own facilities - and how fantastic is it - very luxurious for caravanners like me who like their home comforts!!
Each day we did a 5.5km walk through natural bushland, and along the edge of the water, into the little township which is located on the Tilligerry Peninsula. Of course, then it was coffee time and a walk back home again. There is quite a large marina here, and the water is very calm. Each morning we have seen bottle-nosed dolphins swimming along beside us as well.
Lemon Tree Passage is also home to a very large koala population but unfortunately we didn't see any. Apparently there are so many here that during the mating season, which coincides with the height of the tourist season, they can become a problem and a lot are injured on the roads.
We took a drive to Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay and couldn't believe the changes since we were last here - but dare I say it - it must have been at least 30 odd years ago. Belinda was only a baby.....but we found the place where we stayed and it certainly was very different. There is a huge marina right in Nelson Bay now and it is very busy. I am not sure if our boys will remember this holiday, but I will have to test their memories out when we get home,
