Sunrise is AMAZING despite the two puppies who decided to use our pillows as paw mats. We saunter back inside for a few more hours of sleep and rent a souped up ATV that zipped up to the top of the mountain to see the ancient city of Thira, which was impressive even without the stellar views! The ATV has problems and we wind up coasting down the windiest road of all time (even windier than the one in NZ) and make back down to the bottom in time to get gas. A quick beach stop and we are off to see Oia (ee-ah) which was unreal!
Lunch is taken at a restaurant with epic views and we steal a post-lunch swim in a boutique hotel's pool and walk around the cutest town of all time potentially. The views over the caldera are stunning from every angle. Boutari wineries provides a great venue to get a little tipsy as we try some local wines and grapes and even Jorge and Donkey resurface as they think they are safe from the water and smelled alcohol.
Next we are off to the red sand beach which is truly awesome. In the past two days, I've swam at black, red and white sand beaches... pretty cool! Back at the hotel we grab a snack and head to the airport via the most expensive five minute cab ride of all time. Only back in Athens for a few hours, we get a room at the holiday inn which is the most expensive airport holiday inn I've ever seen, and not quite an "airport" hotel as it is a 15 minute drive away.
The trip with Katie has been absolutely amazing and I'm so glad that we not only got along famously, but that we were able to do so many cool things in such a short period of time. I feel like we've been traveling together for well over the 10 days it has been!
