We get to Dresden with just enough time for ice cream and a brief walking tour of the historic center of the city before getting back on the road for the quick drive back to Berlin. I get to the train station with plenty of time to spare, and we check out the World Sand Sculpture contest and grab a bite to eat before Jess sees me off to hop on the overnight train to Zurich.
The sand sculptures were absolutely amazing with details and features you couldn't imagine were possible in the sand box or at the beach!
We resurface from an epic slumber and head out to grab breakfast nearby. Looking at the clock and realizing that we have a half day before I have to hop on an overnight train to Zurich, we head back for me to pack and then head down to the train station to store my bags and figure out something to do for a few hours. With very few options in such a short period of time and with a big-ticket item still on my checklist, we head down to the car rental agencies at the train station and compare rates for a few minutes before settling on a BMW... when in Berlin! We hit the road and decide to go for a short drive to Dresden, a mere 200km away. By the time we hit the highway, or the autobahn as they call it here, I'm ready to go fast! I surpass 160mph briefly a few times and am satisfied to cruise somewhere closer to 125 for the most part, even though it feels like going 25 after hitting the higher numbers.
