All the summer cottages look like heavenly retreats from the city to come and the unparalleled privacy of the hundreds of tiny islands provide the perfect setting for an escape from reality. I check into my hotel and then walk around the city for a few hours getting a good feel of the various islands that make up the city. I find myself lost in the alleys of the old city of Gamla Stan and love the architecture and small cobble stone roads. I turn a corner and next thing I know, I'm at the palace watching the changing of the guards, which is quite a processional! Another few small alleys and I pop out into a cute square around the entrance to the Nobel Museum. A brief stop in the museum and I find a place to sit down in the square and enjoy some herring.
Get back to the hotel in time for Allie Pyke's friend Kerri Jones and her boyfriend Eric to come pick me up for dinner. We walk downtown and find a restaurant/bar in the central square to sit down and eat along with thousands of other people who have congregated here after work. There are so manly lively conversations around me and I feel the energy as the city comes to life while the sun lingers into the night.
Malin (from Thailand and Kuala Lumpur) and two of her friends, Sarah and Julia, join the dinner party and we enjoy a few beers outside before heading off to a popular bar called East. Eric and Kerri leave me with the three girls and they all say we are headed to a club called Ambassadeur to see a Ministry of Sound show. We hit up the club and have a blast... a bottle of Absolut later (when in Rome!) and I'm the dance floor for the rest of the morning despite the entirely way to European techno/house/trance crap music. To think, this was the first day that I forgot to bring my glow sticks with me, what a shame!
The night ends with me eating the strawberries I had purchased earlier in the day...
