We surface and open our patio door to a most amazing view of the ocean!
Breakfast is scrumptious (I'm running out of ways to say the food here is some of the best I've ever had) and we go for a walk along the coast before regrouping and heading to Kleinbaai to swim with the Great White Sharks!!! (www.whitesharkprojects.co.za)
I'm a bit nervous about it, and get tingles up my spine when we see our first shark but relax when he doesn't try to eat the boat or even just grab someone's arm or leg!
The first brave divers go in and out of the cage within ten minutes as they are complaining it was too cold and it was hard to see anything in the murky waters. I venture in with Jen and two others and we confirm what the first group had complained about. I decide to stick it out and see if I can't get some good action and sure enough as soon as the three others had left the cage and I was all alone, a flurry of action burst out in front of me.
I don't want to exaggerate as the water was murky and I did see more from the surface than under water, but there was definitely a moment under water where the shark saw me and gave me a quick "fuck off" (or "fuck up" as Richard would have said). I sniped back, "bite me", and the confrontation was over as quickly as it had begun! The pictures we have don't do the experience justice as Jen and I were wet and/or in the cage when most of the action happened, but I'd give the whole adventure a 7, as it didn't live up to the 10 I had been hoping for!
Back in our trusty Chico, we headed down the Garden Route towards Knysna.
The various towns were all small, cute and picturesque and the juxtaposition of the mountains with the ocean provided for one of the most scenic drives I've ever been on!
We sputtered into Knysna just as the sun set and found ourselves seated at the Dry Dock Food Company (www.drydock.co.za
) just in time for the power outage we had been hearing so much about and waiting for to hit. This provided for quite the romantic candlelit dinner which turned out to be very good seafood!
The bay was beautiful and we managed to find a cute B&B (Point Lodge, www.pointlodge.com
) that would take us at this late hour just in time for dinner to end.
I wake up and check my email. The first one is from a friend apologizing as the G'men lost... I'm bummed but admit that I expected that outcome. I go to check the box score to see how bad it was and realize that I've been had! I shout, which wakes up Jen and our friend Kitty Kat who had decided to sleep in my bed.
