Hi everyone!

I┤m in Iceland right now on the Chituma! It made the 450 mile ride to Aberdeen no problems, I even hit 70 by slipstreaming passing artics! Even the bumpy gravel roads have been ok, I always had faith! Haven┤t had to ford a river yet though and the chain needs adjusting every 5 mins.

I arrived on the boat at Seydisfjordur on thursday morning after a 3 day ferry ride from Scotland, there were loads of other bikers on board who were really friendly and hardly laughed at my bike at all. (Allday friday I was walking all wobbly from being so long at sea!) The weather was really great and I camped down the road at Egilsstair. The next morning I woke to the depressing sound of drizzle, I didn┤t sleep very well because it never got dark and it took me nearly two hours to pack up my soaking things and get going.

The rain didn┤t stop for one minute of my 4hr ride down the coast to H÷fn and by the time I arrived I was totally soaked! My gloves had dyed my hands blue and one had turned inside out but was too wet to fix. Miserable. It was a shame because the scenery was really fantastic and I missed out because I was staring ahead at the muddy tracks(even the main route 1 is gravel in places) and shivering.

I checked into a hostel with a tumble drier and gradually put my gloves, trousers, maps, tent, etc, etc through it. After a shower and a burger I felt loads better and walked down the road to book an organised tour for the next day. (today)

The tour was really amazing! I got picked up in a 4X4 minibus along with a couple from hong kong and we drove to the glacier Vatnaj÷kull along a tiny mountain path with sheer drops while the driver smoked a cigar with one hand and talked on his phone with the other. On the glacier, which is the biggest in Europe we took an hours skidoo ride. You cant see anything except snow and the occasional mountain. It┤s like the sahara of snow! After this we got in an ancient amphibious vehicle and sailed into an icy lagoon full of crazy shaped icebergs, it was really weird and we got to eat some of the ice which is thousands of years old. I cant put any photos on here but I will as soon as I get the chance. I┤ve got some more to go on from spain and italy too.
