The misty winter morning was giving way to the golden sun rays that painted the city with hues of orange and gold. The canal was reflecting the buildings and bridges which was a perfect postcard picture. We chose to start early to beat the crowd and we were rewarded with nice photographs and a traffic-free canal ride.

The nearest point for taking the gondola ride was near the fish and fruit market. The market was closer to the Rialto bridge as well. We walked to the market, crossed the grand canal for 50p(really!!!) and jumped on to a gondola without an argument for the price. We were given a grand tour of the canal for about an hour. It vista of the city from the water was just splendid. We snaked through the city through small canals as well which made the entire trip so worthwhile. Note: The local vaporetto serve the entire stretch of grand canal for a much cheaper price, though the opportunity cost would be 'Privacy'.

Then we walked through the city with the final destination as St. Mark's Square. We chose to take small lanes and get the flavor of the Venetian life. The St. Mark's Square was getting crowded every single minute. We passed an entire hour just by people/pigeon watching. We then did a tour of St. Mark's Basilica with Rick Steve's audio guide in hand.

We then headed for our late lunch in one of the small restaurants little far from the square. The farther the restaurants from the top attractions, tastier the food and better the service.

The rest of the evening went by walking past many many bridges/canals, watching the sunset from the lagoon. The day that was special in all respects.
