Not wanting to stay for the marathon and all the people, we set of at 7.30 , which was a record for us, and got to Wodonga about 20 minutes later. It was like a ghost town, not a soul awake on a Sunday morning at that time. W e continued on to Albury, where again it was super quiet. We walked around the botanical gardens, filled the car up, and did a bit of shopping, then headed off again. Albury is a great place, and one we will return to at another time.
We decided to take the longer, quieter road to Corryong, and this turned out to be the right choice as it was beautiful scenery, and hardly any cars. We hugged the Murray all the way, and it was such a gorgeous trip.
We spent the night camped beside it, in a fantastic spot. The only sounds were the running water and the cows mooing. There were lots of wombat holes everywhere, and we had our own little beach right outside the van.
Our water in the van was only a quarter full, so I decided to wash my hair in the river. I was in there with a head full of shampoo and a cereal bowl as a water scoop, when two cars went slowly past with the people inside all staring at me. We hadn't had a soul near us the whole time we were there, so I was so embarrassed. Lucky I was fully clothed, otherwise they would have had nightmares for the rest of their lives. John couldn't stop laughing, and I couldn't do a thing to hide. The gypsy life is getting to me.
