On the drive out from Kings Canyon we came across a camel in the middle of the road, and then on the Stuart Highway we passed a cyclist. Those guys are crazy!!!! We also overtook a road train, which was a first for us, they usually overtake us!
The caravan park was one of the best we have stayed in, but was full with over 200 Avaners attending their annual national gathering. Luckily we had a great corner site on the very boundary of the park, and the ones close to us were all from Bunderberg, and were lovely people. Few!
We ended up spending 5 nights there as it was a lovely spot, and we wanted a bit of a rest.
We visited Simpons Gap, Standley Chasm, and the National Road and Transport Museum (we girls went for a walk instead) and the Todd Mall markets. We had spent a week in Alice Springs once before, so we didn't need to see anything else.
The shopping area is now larger than it was, but still is not the most attractive of areas. A lot of the shops were vacant, and there weren't many people shopping.
Aboriginals roam around aimlessly, and generally give the security guards grief. We wondered how happy they were, as they obviously don't work, their money is most likely spent where it shouldn't be, and they don't seem to have any purpose in life. One wonders if they would be better off without our intervention.
We quite like Alice. It is such a different place, being unexpectedly green and treed, with such cultural heritage and places of beauty surrounding it. It is both harsh and beautiful, with the Macdonnell Ranges forming a magnificent backdrop. It's time to read A Town Like Alice once again.
We sadly said goodbye to Grant and Sandy, as they had to fly back to Qld. They were fantastic company, and we had a great many laughs and good times with them. They are planning on meeting up with us in Margaret River, so we look forward to this. Greg and Barb are also hoping to meet us in Perth, so we have much to look forward to when we are in WA. When you are on the road, meeting up with good friends is something we really enjoy and hate it when they leave.
