What I did
Travelled back to Nairobi
27/07/2011
I left Nakuru this morning, but not after spending about an hour arguing with the hotel as they increased my daily rate by 50%. I didn't pay it, I only paid what I agreed to, lets hope I can get out of the country ok?
I also had to go back to Naivasha to collect my laundry I had left at the last hostel! Gutted because I still wanted to go over to Mount Kenya and at least take a look, this was now vetoed as I had to go in entirely the opposite direction.
With the stop off to collect my laundry I had to transfer Matatus, which went perfectly. The journey back to Nairobi was smooth and fast until I arrived on the outskirts of Nairobi. You can’t possible understand how bad traffic, smog and generally getting anywhere in rush hour in Nairobi is. This nearly doubled the journey time.
Still I made it safe and sound and even managed to locate the train booking office so I could buy my ticket to the much anticipated journey on Friday from Nairobi to Mombasa. The evening was spent back in civilisation, shopping around for mobile broadband and an external hard drive, nothing too exciting. Still for the first time I ignored the suggestion of the lonely planet and hostels advice and took Matatus to and from the mazungus shopping area, even after dark. Guess what it was a lot cheaper than special hires (conventional taxi) and perfectly safe!
