I'm still at home at the moment. By my own standards, and maybe for others too, I have made a monumentous decision and resigned from a very well paid job and good conventional future. At 46yo I have waited since my teens to travel independently and now with the combination of courage, some funds and a touch of madness (according to others) I am going. I have a one way ticket to Mexico City and I am crapping myself.
The plan: work a little, travel a little.
Where do I want go:
  • Cuba
  • Central America
  • Peru
  • Middle East
  • India, Nepal, Tibet, Chine
  • South East Asia
  • Japan
That'll do for a start. No idea on time frames or much of anything else for that matter. Lets try Mexico City first and see where we go.

First (significant) part of the journey: Oxford to Gatwick 12.20, 7th december, X80 Airline bus.

Last day at work is on the 30th of November and my flight had been booked and paid for - 7th December; economy flight, of course, Gatwick to Madrid and then to Mexico City, 19hrs.

But before that I've got to wrap up the tax (self employed), get my stuff in storage, sell the car, reclaim the flat deposit, car insurance, inoculations, travel insurance, travel card, and so on...!!
