Today I started out with a visit to the four corners monument. The four corners monument is the meeting place of four US states - Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. The morning drive along Highway 160 to four corners was very enjoyable with some great scenery along the way. I got to the four corners monument pretty early in the morning and was the only person there which was good. After a quick look, I was back on the road into Colorado.

Last year I stayed in Cortez Colorado and went through Durango towards Sante Fe. This time at Durango I headed north up 550 to Montrose. The drive up 550 to Montrose was awesome with some fabulous scenery along the way and good quality roads. I just wish I was on a motorbike rather than driving a car as there were some great twisties along the way. I stopped for lunch at Ouray before continuing on to Montrose and then along Hwy 50 towards Canon City. Just before Canon City, I went for a look at the Royal Gorge. The Royal Gorge has a suspension bridge over it, and is claimed to be the worlds highest suspension bridge. The bridge is 1053 ft above the Arkanas River. You can drive your car over the bridge, which I did, and I must admit I was a bit nervous as I was going across - the surface of the bridge is wooden!!

In Canon City I checked into a hotel and asked the receptionist where a good place to get something to eat and a beer in town was. The receptionist said I should go check out McClellans Grill and Brewing Co as they brewed their own beer. The pub turned out to be a great spot, the beers were really nice (sampled most of what they brewed!) and I had a great chicken fried steak for dinner. I spent most of the night talking to the pub owner, Joe McClellan, and he ended up giving me a few shots on the house. It turned into quite a late night and I wasnt looking forward to getting up and doing some more driving the next day!!
