Today we're going to take the long drive through the Richardson Hwy, near the Alaskan pipeline, towards Valdez. We took some food and drinks with us, and apparently this was a very clever thing to do, since it was pretty hard to find a reasonable place for lunch.
Through the whole way we saw magnificent views of the mountains with the green foothills and the white peaks, as well as different glaciers, waterfalls etc.
We stopped at the Worthington glacier (about 45 minutes from Valdez), which lies really close to the road. You can park your vehicle and take a very short walk to the glacier. We were amazed of the different colors of the ice. That blue color caused by the density of the ice is stunning!
After taking a lot of pictures of the glacier, we continued our way to Valdez. We had reservations at the Best Western hotel, right next to the small boat harbor. This is a very, very old hotel, and it shows all around. They could really use some renovations there.
We got our room (a huge one, to be honest) at the upper level of the hotel, but since there is no elevator we had to carry our luggage all the way up the stairs, which wasn't very easy.
Based on recommendations we got, we decided to go have dinner at Mike's Palace, just across the street from the harbor. Food was really good, but we found the place a bit overpriced.
On our way to the restaurant, we encountered the offices of Pangaea - a company providing different hiking/climbing trips at the Worthington glacier. We stopped at the office and made reservation for a hiking trip for the following day.
