As a parent, we believe our purpose is to cultivate a desire and passion in our four children to make our world a better place for ALL. To do so we need to expose our children to not only our views, ideas and beliefs but also those of others so they can reach their fullest and greatest potential by getting as much 'good data' as possible.  After traveling twice around the world with our children, we feel we have given them adequate evidence that the world is bigger than their (and our own) personal wants BUT not too big to pursue their own goals and dreams as well as helping others along their way.

As I sit at Janice’s parent’s kitchen table back in Canada at 2:25am (jet lagged), I reflect on our latest journey around the world in 80 days.  I know we are incredibly fortunate to have been able to do what we have done.  Many lessons and experiences have shaped (changed and developed) us personally, as a couple and a family.   We have established many long-term relationships and hope we can return the love and hospitality that we received by our many friends around the world and help them reach their dreams.

Sabrina at age 16 is now living her dream and has enrolled at the University of Nantong for full time study of Chinese so that she is better prepared for her career in law enforcement.  Sabrina will teach English on the weekends and go to full time university during the week (while completing her BC high school online).  Worried that Sabrina may be taking on too much, I asked my Chinese brother (Ivan) native to Rugao City (home of the most centurions) what the secret to longevity was – his reply "work hard and never stop until you die".  Too often, we limit our potential because we place too many self-imposed obstacles in our paths.  The goal is to find balance yet not be afraid to try, fail and try again.

I had set out to write three books and have almost completed the second one.  Although I did not necessarily reach my goal (yet!) I wanted to be an example to my family that “YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON”.  This travel blog was more for Janice and me to chronicle how incredible life is and witness first-hand the metamorphosis of our children over time and experiences while living our dreams.

This trip too was for me an opportunity to see and be with the greatest treasure a man could ever have – my family.  I have an amazing wife and four beautiful children who inspire me to be better!  I know I speak for our family by saying that we would be honored if we can help to inspire YOU to live your dreams.  Rather than saying more I want to close this chapter (and book) with my favorite poem that inspires me …………..I hope it does YOU too!

If......

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!
