9 countries, 52 cites, 126,255 km, 545 days, 18 months, 1.5 years, 8 books, 13350 photos, 11890 travel blog visits, 10 birthdays………..You get the idea – OUR DREAM IS NOW A REALITY.

We completed our journey by spending Christmas in Burnaby with Janice's parents and brother and his children, celebrated my mom's birthday in Merritt on the 26th and then ended 2009 in our home in Summerland.

It is now New Year's Day and I am trying to write our last travel blog that is going to sum up our family adventure. This is a far more difficult task than one may think.  Looking back:

"Why?" Just thought we would answer an often-asked question, for ourselves as much as for others.  A year away from school, work and the structure of everyday life has so much to offer us as a family.  Exposing the kids to the rest of the world and seeing how peoples live so differently and with so much less than we do.   Many months ago, we came up with a mission
statement for ourselves so that we do not forget our priorities:

1.      To honour, serve & worship God

2.      To give the kids (and ourselves) a global perspective

3.      Spend 1 year as a family; forging better relationships with each other

4.      Learn the most we can about each country

5.      Have fun!

Conclusion:  MISSION COMPLETE!!

                Recommendation:  Dream then Live them!!

Blessings and have an amazing 2010!!

Love,

Raymond, Janice, Sabrina, Sophia, James and Monique Maaske

Welcome home! What's next? We are in Enderby now, and at times asking that question. Maybe we can get together sometime soon.

Congratulations and welcome home! You will be revisiting your experiences over the past 18 months for the rest of your lives. What a rich collection of memories. And what a gift you have given your children. That reminds me of a quote... "the greatest gifts we can give our children is roots and wings" Mission accomplished!

So glad you had such wonderful experiences in so many parts of the world, and that you all have returned home happy, and healthy!
You packed so much into some days, that it likely seems you were away longer?!
Hopefully we can catch up soon...once you have readjusted to the Okanagan!
