Wednesday we took the local bus for two hours to go to Zhuhai's best amusement park – Mysterious Island. It was a weekday which meant that everyone was either at work or school. This meant that we had the entire amusement park to ourselves except for a few tourists. There was more staff than riders. The only problem with this was that we had to often search around the park to get enough people to 'balance’ the ride.
We had a great day. There were three rides that I saw that I was convinced that I would not ride because I was too chicken. However, like most things in my life my goal was ‘adjusted’ and I rode all three of them. The roller coaster was the fastest and scariest ride I had ever been on. We also saw two shows of flexibility and balance that was unbelievable had we not seen it ourselves.
This week Sunday has become Thursday. If you think you are confused - join the club!! October 1st is National Day (60th) and the Mid Autumn Festival falls on October the 3rd this year. That means that the second most important annual holiday is eight days long this year. So in order to make up some time (see the efficiency?) this Sunday has become next Thursday. School, businesses and government were all at work on Sunday as though it was next Thursday.
I am really enjoying teaching 700 students. This year the classes are a little larger with 56 students in each class. I meet Friday mornings with the English teachers and try to encourage them and help them balance the stress of teaching with finding meaning in their lives. I have attached at video that I showed and discussed ‘What CAN"T you do?. If you get a chance take a watch………it is inspiring.
