Rugao City

July 22nd we got to witness a 'partial' Solar Eclipse that lasted about 6 minutes.

Last July, only days before leaving on our family trip around the world I went to China with my two partners to investigate a new building material. While there I met a very good man who has become a very good friend.  It was for this reason we made every effort to return to visit Ivan and his family.

Ivan was waiting for us at the bus station and then taxied us to our hotel room that he booked for us at a 50% discount.  Once in our room we realized that Ivan had come earlier to our hotel room to put the air-conditioning on and had one of our family photos professionally framed in one room and ceramic plates with Janice’s parents and James and Monique embedded in each of them in the other room.   Ivan had thought of everything to make our stay in Rugao City as comfortable as possible including four ‘walkie talkies’ for the children so they could play and venture away from us now and then.

Once we rested we were treated to a magnificent traditional Chinese dinner only to be topped off with two large boxes of firecrackers being set off in the middle of the street outside of our hotel.  We were amazed how close we were and how loud they were.  Sophia said "they are just like the ones they set off in Summerland!"  We laugh when we imagine what would happen if we did this outside the Vancouver Hotel or any hotel anywhere in Canada.  We would most likely be arrested and charged!  In any case, Ivan and his family sure made us feel welcome to his City and his family.

Our friend Susan (with her boyfriend) came to Rugao City to meet our family as we were not able to go to her city.  Sabrina was able to finally meet Susan in person as I had introduced them to one another a year earlier.   Although our stay was brief we all missed leaving Susan, Ivan and his family especially Monique who became good friends with Ivan’s daughter Mary.   We all learned a lot about generosity and servanthood and look forward to lifelong relationships.

Shanghai

We were picked up at the bus station by our friend Barry Bao who had arranged and delivered us to our apartment in the ‘heart’ of Shanghai. I chuckle when I say ‘heart’ because with Shanghai’s 20 + million residents I think you would think anywhere would be the heart!

We spent one day at the museum and bookstore and another at the Barbie Temple (six story building of everything Barbie) and double decker city bus tour.

Class mate!
Hey

Whats up just came back from our yearly watering hole in Ossoyoos at the I'Nikamip camping. Last day had a flash flood of which a foot of water came up on our tent trailer of which the Manager was more concerned about his staff feelings than the safety of the campers. Even though this is our 26th year camping there.

I see your moving around again.

Hey price me out how much a dimond cost 2k.

Cheer, say Hi to Janice and family
