Where I stayed
Wednesday we headed to the Crococun Zoo. A great zoo with mainly local wildlife. There is an opportunity to hold or feed all the animals, which makes it different from any other zoos we have been to. We hitched a ride home (long story) in the back of some Mexican's truck - Sabrina really enjoyed this part (she is an adventurer at heart).
Our last snorkeling excursion was to Cozumel. Cozumel is the main port for cruise ships, and the main industry for the island. We all snorkeled except Monique who took a glass bottom boat ride while we snorkeled. We saw lots of fish; it was a great feeling to be in a giant fish tank.
The only other event was Monique getting her toe stuck in the McDonald's play place door. It was quite a nasty gash on her big toe. The manager put some large bandages on it, gave her some balloons in a large McDonald's container, we dried her tears and continued on.
Our 17th Anniversary was on the 24th. I can't believe we are old enough to be married that long! We didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but then again, we are here in the Mayan Riviera, one of the most beautiful places in the world. That is definitely memorable.
Yesterday, Sabrina & I went to Tulum with Angie and Viv. These are the granddaughters of a couple from New Jersey who own in the condo complex where we are staying (Villas Playa Sol). We enjoyed their company immensely. They are fluent in Spanish, so they could get full details when asking for anything. That was a nice change.
The archaeological site in Tulum was certainly worth the bus ride. They are set upon a cliff, overlooking a spectacular beach. As soon as we found the stairs down to the beach, we abandoned our site seeing and went for a long swim. Then we toured the rest of the ruins in our bathing suits because it was so hot. We stopped in Playa Del Carmen on the way home to do a bit of shopping. Sophia's birthday is fast approaching (September 1st) and I don't want to be unprepared. All our events seem to end with a swim, and this was no different. We were pretty hot wandering down 5th Ave in the middle of the day, so we headed for the beach and spent a couple hours swimming. There was a lot more 'action' on this beach than in Puerto Morelos; the girls especially enjoyed watching the para-sailing.
Today is our last day in Mexico. We have really liked all we have seen here and look forward to exploring Belize.
