Visited the Natura Park eco resort (all-inclusive) in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The travel time was really long since we had to get from Vancouver Island to Vancouver, the fly via Calgary to Punta Cana. Flying time was about 9 hours each way, then adding on the time to & from th island was a chore. But it was worth it to get away from the miserable wet, cold & windy wnter we had this year.

When we arrived in Calgary it was snowing!! Then onto the Dom Rep where it was in the high 20's low 30's celsius every day.

The grounds were gorgeous with lots of vegetation and laggons with lots of fish. Flamigoes & other birds all around.

The beaches were like talcum powder. The water was a little cooler than we expected because we were on the Altantic side of the island, but still warm enough to go swimming & snorkelling. The ususal problems with people putting their towells on loungers to reserve them, and not showing up all day. But we always managed to get loungers under the beach umbrellas down the beach from the resort.

Lovely long beach to the west of the resort which you could walk for hours if you wanted. The rep told us not to go there because it wasn't patrolled by security and there had been some incidents. But there were lots of other people just strolling down the beach, so we felt quite safe in going there.

There was a reef about 1/2 mile offshore which potects the bay from the bigger waves. Quite a bit of weed in the water hich washed up onshore and was raked up by the resort staff.

We took a Outback Safari tour which took us inland to a DR school, home & coffee plantation. Other than that, we really didn't see too much of thelocal culture which was unortunate. But then we were only there for a week!

The usual little shanty type shops all selling the same stuff which did not seem to be very good quality.

All in all though, a great vacation.
