Fuengirola is one of the largest coastal towns or seams to be ! it's hard to tell where one town finishes and the next one starts ! very much like the south of England where we're from in that respect.
But that, and having a promenade is where the similarities end.
The main town is as you would expect for a major tourist spot, bars, restaurants, souvenir stalls etc.
We did however find staying here useful for exploring the surrounding area, and a couple of nice restaurants doing things like jerk chicken and Cajun food, which may have swayed our decision a little ?
Before you all start sending rude emails, yes we do eat local food most of the time, We just have a soft spot for spicy food. ok
Anyway olives are horrid, and I don't care what anyone says !!!
A day trip inland to Ronda is worthwhile, partly for the drive, but mostly for a picturesque old town with a deep valley through the middle.
The hilly white painted town of Mijas is also good, but very touristy.
