Where I stayed
Hostel BadJelly
On Thursday (Feb 8th) we drove from Omarama to Christchurch. It was a fairly unremarkable journey especially as it rained all day!
Yesterday (Friday 9th)we drove to Hanmer Springs and then spent a delightful hour in the hot springs. Julie managed to catch the sun on her shoulders despite the rain and clouds! We then continued to Kaikoura where it finally brightened up a little. We're staying in a delightful little hostel called BadJelly after a Spike Milligan character. I've made friends with the two resident cats Scrap and Noble who persist in begging for food although it's patently obvious from the size of Nobel that they get plenty of food!
This morning the weather was still dull and raining and we cancelled our Whale watch tour booking after being warned of the strong chance of being seasick. As I can get seasick just looking at a glass of salty water I didn't really want to pay $125 for the privilege!
Later in the day we had some good luck as there were some cancellations on the fully booked 'swimming with dolpins' tour tomorrow and we were at the top of the reserve list - so we're going! The not so good news is that it's at 5.30am! The weather is getting better so hopefully I won't get seasick on the boat ride out. I think an early night is called for tonight!
