I'm back home!

I'm so glad to have been able to travel in Europe, both on my own and on tour. Travelling really is an eye-opening experience. I learned a lot about the art, history, and food of France and Italy, and met some great people on tour, whom I hope to keep in touch with.

All that art was amazing! All the food was amazing too! If it weren't for the fact that I had to carry my luggage on tour, I think I would have gained 10 pounds easily. I miss the proscuitto, white cheeses, and wines already.

I was so determined to enjoy myself that I tried to have a positive attitude towards everything I encountered on tour. In fact, I was so relentlessly cheerful that my tour mate, Don, exclaimed that I was always smiling. I think that's the kind of attitude that one should have on tour. It's not easy, as being away from home can be unnerving for a not-so-experienced traveller like me.

Travel is full of small inconveniences. I remember, at the hostel, one girl getting hostile because I was still in my old bed, which she thought she had booked. I was so conciliatory, offering my bed back, that an acquaintance at the hostel said, "You're so nice!" Well, I thought, I'm in Italy! I'm not going to fight over a bunk bed at a hostel! There's so much beauty to see and appreciate!

Travel also is a bit of a culture shock for others, but I found myself adjusting quite well. One person on tour in Italy didn't try much of the food or wine. I was floored. I wasn't going to do that, not in Italy. So I tried everything, seafood, proscuitto, cheeses, house red wine, grappa, "holy wine" or sweet wine, tortes, pies.  It was marvellous.

I hope to travel again, and to have the same positive attitude towards travelling in the future!

Let me know what your favourite travel experiences are! I'd love to hear more.
