On Monday we left Coff's Harbour and drove quite a long distance down to Newcastle. This town was renowned for being a good place to surf so we really wanted to have some lessons here as we still hadn't had any anywhere in the East coast like we had planned. We found a hostel which offered free lessons if you stayed there so this sounded good! We shared a room with an English guy Mark who lived for surfing and an older guy Dave, although he called himself Kiwi as you can imagine he was from New Zealand. We realised after a short while that Kiwi was a bit strange. He worked in the hostel and had a rather large collection of random items from other travelers which he stored under his bed. He claimed that he had "found" all the items but we weren't so sure.
We managed to escape Kiwi for an hour or so and went into town and got an Indian for tea. Once back at the hostel Kiwi insisted we share a bottle of wine with him and so as we're both pretty crap at saying no, we agreed and spent the rest of the evening trying to watch TV whilst Kiwi told us how he thought we were great and such wonderful people... you may think this was very nice of him but after continually saying it for hours it did get rather tiring not to mention creepy!
The next morning it turned out that there were no waves so there were no surf lessons BOO!! We'd only known Kiwi for a few hours and he continued to tell us that we were two of the nicest girls he'd met (probably the only two that listened to his crap)...that was right before he hugged us both... arghhhh freak! We managed to finally escape him and headed further south... or so we thought!
