What I did
Up at what felt like the crack of dawn (but was actually 5am) to catch my first of 5 flights to be taken over the next couple of days! Jersey to gatwick! The flight was fine and I successfully managed to get myself on the correct bus to get me to heathrow!!!...and people think I am a liability when travelling!
The flight to LA was the LONGEST flight I have ever been on (this is not factually true but it felt true at the time!). The guy infront of me reclined his seat fully for the full 11hours...jerk! I did however take the opportunity to watch about 6 movies!
Flying over the desert outside of LA gave me a glimpse out of the window of circular fields...really cool and apparently they do it to make watering easier...genius!
Up at the crack of dawn since I went to bed at 8pm! Decided to treat myself to a hotel breakfast buffet...suffice to say I astounded myself with how much I could eat...fruit, pancakes, potatoes, muffins, juice...the list goes on...
After breakfast I decided to go adventuring! Turns out I am very resourceful when solo, so I jumped on a bus (charmed the driver into letting me on for a dollar...that being all the cash I had...maybe it was more pity than charm!?) and headed to Venice beach! After a couple of minutes on the bus I reconfirmed my previous theory about LA..it is indeed where all the crazies go!!!
Venice beach is amazing! There is so much to just watch...from the grown men still playing on their skateboards at the skatepark to the homeless pothead contingent to the tourists standing around looking astounded! There is a tattoo shop on every corner (and a couple squished in between the corners) and some amazing graffiti art covered buildings in various states of disrepair...I loved it!! (and even managed to hold myself back from a new tattoo!)
I hired a bike (leaving my credit card and ID with the bike guys promise that he would not steal my identity in return for a battered old 'mountain bike'). I cycled for about an hour and a half and did the whole beachfront cycle path from near marina del ray nearly to sunset blvd and back! It was a lovely sunny ride and another trip advisor recommendation win! (assuming no identity theft!!) I am certainly getting a new bike!
I wandered from Venice to marina del ray along the beach-stopping to dip my feet in the water...it was quite gross with the tide going out and a fair amount of rubbish in the surf...but not bad enough to prevent my paddle! The marina is apparently the worlds largest marina for small man made vessels(according to Wikipedia!), not all that impressive really considering the hype!
Dinner was incredible - I again took trip advisors advice and ate at 26 beach cafe...it was sooo cute with mismatched furniture and a very friendly feel! I had a burger and am ashamed to admit I had to eat it with a knife and fork! It was too huge to pick up!!!
I was in bed and asleep by 8pm ready for my 2.30am wake up to fly via EVERYWHERE to get to Argentina!!
