After many long hours of travel I have arrived in Athens!!! I arrived to an uncharacteristically empty Dulles Airport at 3:30pm with Mom, after a long drive in the rain and fog. After a quick check-in and security procedures, I easily found my gate. My British Airways Boeing 747 was scheduled to take-off at 6:40pm. While taxi-ing to the runway, our plane passed by the Discovery Space Shuttle, which had reached Dulles the day before and was sitting on the tarmat awaiting transporation to the air museum. It is very big and caused much excitement on the plane! Following a seven hour flight across the Atlantic to a very rainy and foggy London, we landed twenty minutes later than scheduled. Since I only had a 90 minute layover, I did my best to hurry through passport check and security to make it to the gate on time. Lucky for me, my flight for Athens was running 15 minutes behind schedule as well. Once landing in Athens, quickly clearing customs and claiming my bags, I made my way toward the suburban train. On the train I was lucky enough to seat myself beside a young woman who both spoke English AND was traveling in the same direction as me, confirming I was on the correct train and helping me make the connection to the metro. I arrived at my final destination of Aspasia and George's (friends of my family) at 4pm Athens time. Total travel time: 20 hours.
