We have arrived for a short stay in the capital of Australia, Canberra, and just like most government towns, it was practically closed when we arrived.

Well, this city was not too good. We literally had to walk between the few attractions such as the government house, the mint and the 'city centre' partially on the highway! This city is not intended for pedestrians. The government building had a nice tour with a very knowledgeable older man giving us a tour. He was the hightlight of Canberra. The Mint was also fairly interesting and they will be opening up a more advanced Mint in 2008. Other than that, I would only return to this city if I needed a sleep. It is very, very, very sleepy and boring. Oh well, we got our sleep and we walked about 10km around the city (via highways!) to see two attractions. It's a good thing that the highways aren't too busy otherwise crossing them would have been even more difficult.

Also, their Parliament building was quite plain. I would prefer that it was at least ugly so that I would remember some of its features. During our tour, the nice gentleman explained some of the reasons for the design of the building and they seemed like great ideas, except there isn't any character in the implementation.

We went into the House of Parliament to watch a debate over stem cell research. Hardly any members were there, but it was still quite interesting.

We had a great bean salad, the walk was greatly needed and the weather was almost perfect! We also had a great sleep in a decent room!
