After completing the bulk of Alaska our trip evolved into going in and out of Anchorage: 1) sockeye salmon/Brooks Falls, 2) Kenai Fjords National Park to see the glaciers, 3) jumping off point for our two week cruise to Russia, and 4) final weekend.

This quick visit to Anchorage included a couple of nights down the peninsula to the glaciers. To get there you drive past Tumagain Arm. Turnagain Arm is one of only about 60 bodies of water worldwide to exhibit a tidal bore. The bore may be more than six feet high and travel at 15 miles per hour on high spring tides. Turnagain Arm sees the largest tidal range in United States, with an mean of 30 feet (9.2 m), and the fourth highest in the world We stopped for lunch in Girdwood and had a wonderful think soup served in very large cups - all you can eat - we did not have seconds!

The next day we did the glacier two step - and we step really close to the glaciers!

The waters and the foreshore were filled with mammals and birds.

We also enjoyed the walk to Exit Glacier, and the birds at the Alaska Sealife Center.
