I had a nightmare the other night that a volcano erupted and swallowed my beautiful Amigo (my car). I woke up and saw steam rising in the sky and for a second I thought the dream was real. But it was only the steam rising from the ground at Kafla (pronounced crap-la). I am in a active volcanic region with the last erruption some 20 years ago. There are many calderas, sulphur pots and alien looking mountains. There is even a powerplant that is totally supplied by the geothermal steam from the ground. This is a very cool area. Tommorow I am going to go closer to the volcano area and check it all out. But for now I am at a Lake where several eruptions occured causing like 30 mini calderas that are now islands in the lake. Its very beautiful. Yesterday I went north to the coast and went whale watching for the first time. I saw 2 minke whales a few times each. Once he came up and I got to see his mouth! I also saw about 10 dolphins as they jumped alongside the boat. Unfortunatly the dolphins can go twice as fast as the boat so eventually we lost them. It was a good experience, and I did not get sick. I am very close to the arctic circle... I can tell sometimes if the wind blows from that direction, like right now. After the whale watching I went back to camp and did some laundry. As I was doing so I saw a guy who I saw earlier riding his bike so I started talking to him. I thought he was jamacian but hes actually from Geneva Switzerland, and we have become very good friends. We just cant stop talking and laughing, so I have been having a good time the past couple of days. His name is Luke by the way. So we stayed up almost all night last night trying to get the ducks to come over to us. It was neat to tsee the sun go down. It was the longest sunset in my life, it took 4 hours for the light to finally go away. Then it started getting light just a few minutes afterward. The 22 hours of light is a bizzare thing. I was glad to watch the entire night because I have been wanting to do that. We lounged around this morning and ate cheerios and orange juice then (drumroll...) we went kayaking around the lake! It was so much fun, my arms are tired though. We went around the whole lake and chased a pack of like 70 swans. The lake isnt very deep either, the whole time I could see the bottom! It was a very good time. His knee hurts from biking so hes here for a few days resting it. The weather has been really nice and warm but this afternoon the wind from the north came and now I am wearing my down coat. Tommorow I am renting a bike and going around the lake or by the volcano or both. But I thought I would just give you all an update on my travels. I am having a good time and being very safe so dont worry. I am sorry that I did not tell everyone about this site at first, its just that I learned about it a few days before I left and didnīt have much time to get everyones e-mail. So if you are new to reading these, welcome! I will give an update in a few days perhaps. Ciao! Oh I also wrote another entry but did not send it out through e-mail because I had already sent one that day. Itīs entitled 'crazy girl' (oh and shes here at this campsite also, scary he he he)
