There is a tradition in Madagascar, where every year, families and friends gather on Easter Monday for picnics. It's a time for fun and games surrounded by those you care about.  In Ambovombe, they have put their own twist on the day.  The whole community gets up at the crack of dawn, hops on their family’s cow cart, or just sets out on foot, and heads to the Indian Ocean.  Hundreds of people descend on the beach with hundreds of soccer balls and spend the whole day playing, swimming, and dancing, only interrupted by chowing down on some tasty treats.

At 5AM, a dozen of us jumped in the cow cart for the two hour rumbling ride to the ocean.  We were practically piled on top of each other, but we were still laughing and singing as the sun rose over the fields around us.  When we got there, we met up with friends, ran all over the beach, and played soccer for hours.  While it took awhile to get over being ogled at by hundreds of people, I shrugged it off and had an amazing day.  It was a great 7 hours in the sun.
