After a fantastic night stop over in Kuala Lumpur, we arrived in Bali feeling relaxed and ready to hit the beach. On the plane to Bali we realised we hadn't really planned this part of our trip much (we had to check the visa requirements mid-flight!) and hadn't booked anywhere to stay. The first place we tried was right near the beach but sadly the room we were shown already had a guest in it (being a decent sized cockroach, recently deceased). We tried a few other places which were either full or very expensive, but we finally found a nice place about 5 minutes from the beach and within 2 hours of landing we were in the pool.

The first few days here we had serious thunderstorms and rain, but since then it has been boiling hot (around 30 degrees every day), clear blue skies etc - probably similar to the weather where you are? :) The people here are extremely friendly and love to strike up a conversation with you. There are people trying to sell you stuff on the street or offering transport, but it only takes one 'no thanks' and they smile and leave you alone!

The only downside to Kuta is that it is kind of like Ibiza for Aussies...who aren't the quietest of people at most times but when they are rolling in at 4am they have a special ability to wake up an entire block of people...

We have been surfing most mornings, swimming in the pool in the afternoons and sampling lovely food in the evenings (accompanied by some local beer(s) of course). Yesterday (20th Jan) we took a trip to Sanur on the east coast of Bali and spent the day surfing and trying not to get sunburnt - the water is so warm that you really only need to wear boardshorts, but we are wearing t-shirts as well to prevent resembling lobsters...
Oh and we have been trying not to spend all our money in the numerous shops in Kuta (we haven't been entirely successful to date).

Tomorrow we are off to an island east of Bali (Nusa Lembongan) for a few days of relaxing on the beach/snorkelling, then we come back to the mainland (although we are relocating slightly further up the beach, where Luke is going to do a little bungee jump).

Hope you are all doing well and we look forward to seeing you all in 4 weeks time!
