Since we last wrote it has been very interesting. We only spent one night in Alicante, it was hard work to be moving so quickly (the sunburn on our shoulders did not help with lugging our backpacks around) but it was definitely worth it.  We went up to Castillo Santa Barbara which is a giant castle on a hilltop on the Alicante beach.  We had to take an elevator up the inside of the mountain.  My fear of elevators was definitely pushed to the limits and wasn't helped with Luke’s laughter and prodding, I pushed through with the help of some swear words and silence treatment.  The view from the top was breathtaking and we took some amazing pictures.  Our room at this hotel was one to remember, bright pink decoration and as I turned the door knob on the balcony the whole door collapsed on top of me, luckily I caught it in time before it pushed me over.  We were overlooking another cathedral, what is God trying to tell us?

The next morning we had to leave to come to Almeria, a five hour bus ride followed with Luke reading more of his book and I watched another Spanish subtitled movie – GI Joe.  Our hotel is very nice, much better than we expected.  We have an ensuite, it’s such a luxury and I even had a bath today.  After my bath, we watched an episode of some Spanish soap which was awful but even though we had no subtitles and had no idea what was going on, we couldn’t stop watching.

We have only been here for the day but already had some great experiences, we sat at a beautiful little café near a cathedral and ate churros with coffee and hot chocolate, a bird pooed on my backpack (some say its good luck, I certainly do not agree as Luke is currently trying to wipe it off on the carpet) and we had a classic tapas meal in a local bar, Casa Puga.  The food was delicious but as usual we over ordered and feel extremely full.  As we ate they were showing an episode of Bondi Rescue it was hilarious and gave us a good conversation starter with the waiter even though we had no idea what he was replying.

Tomorrow we are going to visit the Alcazabar (large Muslim fortress) and just enjoy the day walking around this new city.

Our next blog will be from Malaga in a few days.

Miss you all, Love you all!

Hello happy backpackers
You certainly look and sound like you are having a great time. I can only imagine what you were like Belinda going up the side of a mountain on an elevator. You have had some bad experiences (it feels like yesterday that you and Danielle were stuck in the elevator in Sydney before our cruise trip) but the view looks well and truly worth it. Dad and I watched the rugby last night and it was definitely a lot quieter without you screaming at the TV. Have a lovely stay in Almeria.

Wow you are certainly getting around. Feels like you have just arrived in one spot and then you are off to another....the fun of travelling I guess. The scenery does look spectacular. I wish we could swap places esp with our weather, it really is rather chilly and there you are with sunburnt shoulders. Luke in that photo “Luke at the Alicante Beach”, you look like a local, esp with that hat on and the food does look yummy.
Cheers Mum and Dad

Hi there Luke and Bind
OMG what a great time you are having. Benjamin and I are sitting on the sofa, fire on, cold wintery day, footy on in the background (hawks vs gold coast in Tas), enjoying your fantastic pics. Food looks awesome! You'll be happy to know we had our own little 'international' adventure today! Mum, Dad, Michael, Andrew and I went to the Dandenong Market this morning. We even took our Fonterra cheese trolleys!!! Your Dad bought Churros! Mum wanted to take a photo and send to you both - lol! We're so glad you are having a great time - we love sharing your journey xxxx

Hi Guys
Have only just read all your blogs - been meaning to for ages! All sounds like you are having an amazing time! I read the Scottish wedding blog esecially the part about women not supposed to speak at weddings! Apparently in Wales women dont go to funerals! Thought that would be a useful piece of quirkiness to help your journey!!
Envying you the spanish sun and warmth - here is chilly and so windy the other night thought I would end up in Kansas clicking my ruby shoes!!
We get our little 'traveller' Todd back in 10 days after 9 weeks at Alpine School thats if he survives camping in the snow and cross country skiing!
I will sign off seeing if I press my nose to the wonderful pics close enough they will generate some heat!
Happy Travelling and Best Wishes from The Poultons x
