Just a quick one to say thanks for all the birthday messages- I was in Dogon country in Mali on my birthday, part of a 3 day trek. As you know- very hot but well worth it, as I saw the masked dance in Tirelli on the big day.
When we got back to civilisation the guys had organised a cake and a band played at the hotel- very Ali Farka Toure.
As expected he music has got better in Mali, and should get better still with Bamako coming up.
Anyway I'm going to get off as I need to eat before a trip to a pottery village- a few km down the Niger!
Thanks again and I'll update you more in Bamako- if I can get out of bed after the parties!
