I had the backpack back in the right place... on my back and not in the loft.  I've got 7.5 months of work and I can't wait. It had been a very hectic few days but I made the plane.... after running to the bus stop with a 20kg backpack on my back. I landed in BA and welcomed by a balmy 42 degrees and greeted by my family and Debbie and spent a few very civilized days aclimatising, eating steak, strolling round the sights, watching Tango, meeting friends living out here and sampling the transport system... (done the train, bus, subterrania '(metro) taxi, walking - but no cycling as yet - even with my experience this place looks scary for a cyclist).

The family left and the civilized lifestyle left on the same plane.  I checked into the Milhouse hostel, met my Irish roomey and hit BA's biggest transvestite club "Club 69" to watch some "interesting" dancing until the birds were tweeting. This brought me fully into BA time where its all about nocturnal living, where dinner is at middnight, clubs open at 2am rather than close, you go to bed at 7am rather than get up and sleeping is cheating.

After a day by the pool in Parque Nortes next up was a Polo tournatment at Club La Tardes which was a local affair, joined by a group of New Yorkers we headed out to Mercedes for the last match of the season. It wasn't quite the Cartier Polo I was expecting - the six of us were the sum total of the specatators. I did get to have a go though but not sure the black dress and flip flops were quite right apparell but as health and safety are not on the agenda out here I was fine.  Good fun and the horses were so well trained.

The markets in La Boca and San Telmo were full of life, colour and an amazing amount of tat and the Tango in the streets was best left to the pros.

Highlight of the week - 6'6" transvestite Vicky Pollard look alike body popping on stage at Club 69

What's tickled my sense of humour - Jesus rising on the hour every hour out of the mountain singing Halleluyah at the religious theme park next to Parque Norte where I was trying to have a peaceful sunbathe by the pool.

Steak count - 8 (in 7 days - is that wrong?) Best one was 400g Bife de Chorizo at La Cabrerra in Palermo
