Sunday (30th) got up at ridiculous o'clock AGAIN in order to catch our 6am bus heading for Noosa. So, arrived fairly early (around 10:30 if my memory serves me correctly) into Noosa and I was left with the bags while Liz went off to find the cheapest accommodation. On we climbed into a little minibus heading for a lovely looking resort where the lady was promising us a whole house to ourselves when who should climb in after us but the English couple from the Fraser Island trip. 'Ooh.. what a lovely surprise' we faked, only for our landlady to think we were all best friends and stick us in a house together. Jeez, you should have seen Liz's face; it was a picture!

This couple had really started to set my nerves on edge what with her constant screeching to summon him to do something for her (such as accompany her to the toilet) and his brainlessness. Allow me to digress one moment back to Fraser Island in order to illustrate this point. At one point, the guy had a go at driving down the beach. Being a rather nervous driver, he had asked Liz to sit up front with him to help him spot any dips etc. Fair enough. I would even allow the fact that he never moved out of 2nd gear to slide for, let's face it, I can't drive. However, it was when Liz said to him that they had to keep an eye out for the Pinnacles (the large multicoloured sand formations we were due to stop at) that he really stumped me. He said - and I would swear on my mother's life this is what he said: "And what side will they be on?" ?!!!! He was driving along the beach with the sea on his left, as it had been all day. What side did he think it could be on?!!

But, to be fair, they were much less irritating in Noosa, probably because we were trying (rather unsuccessfully) to avoid them the whole time. The remainder of Sunday was spent on the gorgeous beach near our home and having fun mucking about in the surf, which had quite a strong undercurrent. I was soon in stitches again though. Sitting on the couch watching tv while Liz was in the shower, I hear the couple approach from outside and her say "you plonker" - apparently they'd bought food earlier in the day and returned to put it in the fridge - only he'd put it in the wrong apartment. Quite amusing to think of him strolling in to the house next door and removing his stuff from the fridge before leaving again.

On Monday (31st) we went for our 2hr surfing lesson in the afternoon with a rather gorgeous surf instructor which made it all the more difficult to concentrate on the job in hand. Unfortunately, we were also with the same couple as they had booked it through our resort too. Had a brilliant time though. It was so much fun, and amazingly I managed to stand up on the board for the majority of the time, though truth be told, these were VERY buoyant boards - perhaps 9ft long, so even a whale like me could get on the thing. Had a hell of a lot of fun though, even when towards the end the instructor told me he just saw a stingray leap out of the water (Why was it leaping? I tried to push aside any images of it being chased by a shark). So, was pretty chuffed (and exhausted) by the end of the day and Liz and I agreed that we'd try again when we got to Byron Bay and hire out boards there to get some practice.

That night we decided it was time to move on to Brisbane the next morning, though we left it till we went to bed to let the other couple know - we were damned if they were going to follow us there!
