we started our long drive towards the coast today. salt lake city to portland is 11 hours, so its quite possible to do it in 1 day, but it was unrealistic that we would, but we tried anyway! We passed through Idaho and only stopped at a gas station where there were alpacas? weird. and a sign in the bathroom saying watch out for bats! and lots of bikers...so we didnt stay long....it wasnt long before we were in oregon and driving along the emigrant trail which was very historic and quite cool. We drove for about 9 and a half hours before tom was too tired to go on and we found a campsite on the side of the highway at emigrant springs national park. It was very pretty in the forest and nice camping.

We cooked noodles for dinner and then went for a short walk to try and fill in time waiting for the sun to go down so that we could go to sleep. The sun doesnt set over here till 9pm at the moment so its light outside forever, no fun when you're camping. Especially since its up at 6am again.

It got dark eventually so we went to bed and then slept quite well i think, in our many layers of clothing and blankets.

Along the way to the campsite though, i forgot to mention that we saw lots of windmill propellers being transported on big long trucks! 9 in total today, so that kept me entertained while driving, looking out for those and trying to take photos before the passed us.
