Where I stayed
lake mead national recreation area
We pretty much went to Vegas again. Yosemite to Zion is a big trip to do in 1 day so we drove as much as we could and then stopped at Lake Mead (Hoover Dam) to camp the night. It was incredibly hot, about 93 degrees Fahrenheit which is no fun and it didn't really cool down at all. Lake Mead is a random place, such old history and rocks and the landscape is amazing but so dry and feels totally weird to be there. They even have a marina and harbour on the lake, so we went there for some dinner. We walked along a floating boardwalk and there were FISH everywhere! Just looking at us with their heads out of the water waiting for us to throw in some food. They looked like catfish or carp? And maybe some striper like on the wii when dad fishes. But the striper weren’t following us around like the other fishies. So that was entertaining, they were quite funny.
We went back to camp and some young seasonal park rangers came around and told us that they were going to be running a program later about rocks! So they told us to come along, and we did. It was really interesting, they were talking about all the different types of rocks at Lake Mead and how you can actually see some of the oldest rocks in America there. It was a good little distraction from the heat.
As soon as we went back to the tent it had only cooled about 5 degrees so was still super hot. Way too hot to sleep, but there was nothing else to do. So we tried to sleep, the tent kept the breeze out which was no good, and it was like a little oven, but we managed to sleep a little, even if we did stick to the mattresses and did wake up every hour to rehydrate.
