HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM TOM!

today was tom's birthday, hes old now. but what a way to spend it in the Bahamas!! We slept in abit and then went for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was buffet style and was almost $20 a person, but it was Tom's birthday so it was a special treat :)

We then got ready to go on our snorkelling trip! Stuarts Cove, the company that we were doing it with picked us up from the hotel and took us to where the run the snorkelling out of. It was a good 30min drive away and the bus driver wasnt going slow. We had to wait for a while before the boat left, but then we boarded the boat and were ready to go! The boat ride to the first site was pretty quick and we had 30mins of snorkelling there. There were lots of fishies, mostly the same 3 kinds but it was fun swimming with them. We had Tom's underwater camera so we took lots of photos too. We then had to get back on the boat and wait for some divers that we were with us to come back up. It was only a 5min wait but sitting on a rocking boat for 5 mins did not make us feel very well.

We were off again and went to the next site where the water was even clearer and the waves were slightly bigger, so there was more seasick feeling. We had 30mins of snorkelling here, but I lasted probably about 10mins before even just being in the water was making me sick, so I had to bail and i threw up several times in the boat toilet. grossssss. tom was also sick but managed to do some more snorkelling.

Our last stop on the snorkelling trip was to the place where they filmed part of jaws 2 and where the mythbusters episode to do with sharks was filmed. This is where we got to 'swim with the sharks'. or rather tom did, i was too sick to move from my spot on the boat. So the way it worked was that the staff people dropped a box of shark food down to the bottom and the sharks all came for a feed, and then the snorkellers held on to a line at the top of the water and just looked at the sharks feeding. We werent allowed to actually swim with them because they mistake any arm movements as a feeding gesture, so swimming would lead to you being eaten, and the contract we signed stated that we had to give up any right to sue in the case of being eaten or attacked, so no swimming allowed!

The snorkellers then get back on the boat and they brought the food up and the sharks followed, so we got to see the sharkies swimming around the top of the water.

After the snorkelling trip we went back to the hotel and got ready for some dinner, where we walked down the street and had chinese, because we had seen the chinese restaurant earlier and it made us want it.

Then we stayed up and watched the basketball, miami vs chicago. Miami won taking out the finals of the southern conference, so our hopes of seeing them play in miami were gone :(

So besides the throwing up, Tom had a pretty good birthday :)
