this week is national police week in Washington DC...they had a drinkfest and concert last night across the road from our hostel, followed by a fun run early this morning! and now another concert tonight, im listening to the music as i write this.

yesterday i was sooo exhuasted so i had a rest day while tom went to the air and space museum and the smithsonian natural history museum. He really enjoyed the air and space museum so we went back there today.

First of all though, we went to the capitol building for a tour inside! Its a free tour but you have to be there super early to reserve tickets... or buy them online like i did the night before :) So we walked to the Capitol building, in the misty rain and then security made me throw out my $20 brand new drink bottle i bought at MIT only 4 days ago, because apparently you cant even take empty bottles into the building :( stupid security.

We got our tickets and lined up for the tour, which started with a 13 minute film about america and DC and how the capitol building was made and got burnt down by the british and then rebuilt. Then we went out and joined the line for our tour group, we had a nice man as our tour guide who knew a lot of stuff. it was intriguing. Theres 100 statues within the capital building, 2 for each state, and they stay there for a set period of time and then the state can send a new one. Oh and the statues have to be of 2 of the most important/biggest idols of the state. and our tour guide knew all the names of all the statues, where they were located in the building, what state they were from and why they were famous. it was crazy. crazy cool.

After our tour we went to the library of congress just to have a squiz and its a pretty cool place, would've like to have gone to the main reading room but you're not allowed :(.

We then went to the air and space museum since tom loved it so much and i missed out yesterday, but we went straight to the food court first because we were starving. Their foodcourt is purely a massive mcdonalds. there was a school group there and a few girls sat at the other end of our table, and one of the girls, no joke, had 10 (TEN) containers of ketchup to go with her chips and 10 nuggets. She'd consumed 3 by the time we left and was only half way through her medium fries. oh my god. their ketchup is just extra sugary tomato sauce. kids dont need candy these days when theyve got ketchup.

we explored the air and space museum for a few hours, then returned to the hostel and got ready to go to CHINATOWN for dinner :) sweet and sour pork was DELICIOUS, chicken and cashew was not....and had plastic wrapper corner in it. was not impressed :(

also, first day we've come back to the hostel and my feet havent hurt....purely because i bought new shoes on my rest day yesterday that actually support my feet :) shoulda done it ages ago.
