A 9 hour bus trip on those stupid bumpy pot hole filled roads with max 1 hour sleep prepared us for nothing of what today was going to bring. We got into DC at 7:30am and couldn't check into our hostel until 10am, so we had an extraaa long brekky :)

We walked to our hostel as it was only about 3 streets away, so that was good. They make you take your shoes off before you come in, which is strange but also makes the place looking super clean. I was amazed that a hostel could be so clean! So that was an impressive start to the trip in DC.

Oh yes, after walking around harvard and MIT all day yesterday and then sitting on a bus all night, my feet had swollen up to be quite an ugly sight, i had cankles and everything, so walking around hurt a lot, but it had to be done! cant waste a whole day in DC because of swollen feet. So we walked down to the national mall, which also was not far away (See map below :D). its set out like the parliamentary triangle, so we saw the capital building (which is the equivelant of parliament house), and walked alllllll the way down to the lincoln memorial at the other end, which is about as far away from the capital building as the way memorial is from parliament house, except there isnt a lake in between. or at least it felt that far.

We stopped at the washington monument on the way, and then the white house which was very cool but also very heavily guarded. We saw the presidents little puppy running around in the yard, and Michelle's veggie garden was right by the fence.

We then saw the WWII memorial which has pretty fountains and then the reflecting pool, which had been draining and was under renovation. And a blind squirrel on the path :( poor thing. Then we went up the lincoln memorial which is quite massive, and is just him sitting on a chair in a big building, quite impressive. Then all the way back to the capital building and then back to the hostel.

We went to safeway and bought some food and tom cooked me bolognese for dinner which we had on tortillas. Very tasty.
