On Sunday we took the ferry to Taboga ($11 return, roughly 45 min trip)

(I keep calling it Tobago...if only!!)

In the guide book, Taboga is described as the "flower island" and sounds pretty lush, but when you get there it's kind of a different story...

When you get off the ferry and go left along the small lane that is the island's only road, you go past some beautiful houses full of flowers and decorations. There's a very nice church which was strangely playing loud disco music (with no-one in sight...?)
My idea was to walk to the top of a hill where we could see a cross - apparently there were WWII bunkers there where soldiers used to keep watch over the bay leading into Panama City. There are also apparently some canon ruins dating back to the colonial times....anyway, we started walking along the path and after about 20 minutes the pavement ended and the dirt path began, but it was flooded. And it was about lunchtime and very hot, so we gave up the walking plan and went to a restaurant instead!

The main stretch of beach is at the north of the island, to the right when you get off the ferry. It was like a totally separate place - very unkept, dirty, lots of broken bottles and rusting cans lying around. The beach didn't even look that nice...so we just sat on our towels for a bit and got the ferry back!
