Where I stayed
Brian and Ruth's House
Headed to the airport with Dylan via bus and train and after finally getting through American customs (which you go through while still in Vancouver) which involved rigorous questioning, ringing Phil to find out his sister's address, the threat of deportation and the scanning of my fingerprints in case I turned to a life of crime, we headed to the departure lounge to wait for our flight to be called. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long so after having an interesting discussion about physics and planets we boarded our Alaska Airlines flight to L.A. (bulk head seats! Love leg room)
Arrived at LAX in good time and were met by Phil’s sister Ruth, who picked us up and drove us to her house where we would be staying for the weekend. That night we were taken to a film festival run by the local youth centre which was interesting, before going home and hitting the sack
On Friday, I decided to go have an awesome time at Disneyland with Breesha’s soccer team while Dylan went off to see some museums. It. Was. ACE! I got there before the team arrived to went to explore the shops on Disney Mainstreet and took lots of pictures of all the Disney character wandering around (I am such a child :D)
When the team arrived, Jane phoned me to meet up with them so I headed out of Disney and over the plaza to Californian Adventure where all the grown up rides are. Had a wicked time going to California Screamin’, Tower or Terror and Soarin’ over California (an awesome ride that hoists you up on a row of airplane seats and pipes air and smells at you as you "fly" over California, very realistic!)
At about 5, the team headed over to a restaurant for their dinner reservations while I went back into Disney to wait for them and ended up getting there just in time to watch the parade! Whoop! I filmed pretty much all of it and then had no more room to take photos! The team then came into Disney and hared around going on as many rides as possible before midnight which was good fun. Jane and I then watched the fantastic fireworks display before I headed back to the beachhouse with the team to stay overnight
Saturday was game day, so I went to watch the girls first match and then, more importantly, went shopping at Fashion Island afterwards! (BIG open air mall) The Isle of Man needs a fashion island. So many awesome shops, so little time! After getting a money scare where my card was declined (luckily was a fluke in just that one shop), some nice new jeans and a dress, and getting even worse sunburn on my shoulders, we got picked up and headed back to “base” for a BBQ where Ruth, her husband Brian and their grownup kids Seth and Karis came and joined us before we went home.
On Sunday, Karis took Dylan and I to do Hollywood which was cool, we did the star walk, saw some people in costume (including Chewbacca who must have been boiling under his suit) and went to check out an interesting farmers market. Mum had decreed that I needed to get a picture in front of the Hollywood sign, which is no easy task. It must have taken us about 2-3 hours to get somewhere where there was a clear shot, and it was about 85 F so it wasn’t a very fun trek I can tell you. Finally we got a shot and headed back, where Dylan’s life was made complete when we popped into Amoeba Records, and he had his picture taken at the junction where Biggie Smalls (? Spelling? No clue) was shot
Monday, Dylan left on an early flight so he could get back to Vancouver in time to go to a concert, so Brian took us down to the marina and he, Phil, Ruth and Jane went for a sail. I however, opted to go get lunch from the Cheesecake Factory, sit in the sun and read. I actually have a tan now, which is weird for me after being vampire girl for so long!
California was awesome, and I’d definitively go back some day :D
