We set our clocks for an alarmingly early 6AM!! We slugishly got out of bed to get ready. Once dressed, we realised, with horror, it was still pitch black outside with only the light being the homeless fires.

At first light (an hr and a half later) we purchased our foreigner tickets, 730 rupees more expensive than the Indian tickets!! We passed through an ornate and very impressive arch but nothing prepared us for the beauty and splendor of the TAJ MAHAL!!! Truly amazing!!

We got the famous pricess Diana picture (after much nagging from me) and did our second piece of filming...watch this space!!

On our way out we were asked to take a group picture of about 18 Indian teenagers. It wasn't until after a a lot of explaining we realised they wanted us in the picture...as about 5 cameras flashed around us.

Now we are writing to you from Bharatpur where we are going to cycle around the bird sanctuary tomorrow to hopefully see some eagles...wish us luck!!

Miss you all Lucy and Sam xxx

P.s I changed my top today!!! Unfortunately i only have one jumper and the ketchup stains are mounting!!!

Hi Lu Lu, Happy new year.
I'm lovin reading your blog, hope you are able to keep it up.
Just a few questions though. What is the weather like? Is it very foggy or humid or fresh sunny and breezy? I'm trying to imagin the atmosphere.
Is it very smelly in places. What are the poor homeless people burning? What is the vegitation like, is there any? Besides the roaming cows are there any other animals/ birds around? What is like being among so many poor people? Are there many begging, do you feel intitidated at any time? Is there a botanic garden in any of the places you've visited, I always look out and try and visit to get an idea what it would be like it if it wasn't so built up.
What is the accomodation like? what are the showers like? How cold is it at night? What are your fellow travellers like? What nationallities are they.
Is there a big language problem? What is it like carrying your great big ruck sac on your back all day? Tell me more about the food you are trying out.
Is Sam finding enoughfood he likes to keep hunger at bay?
Any plans to see the Golden Temple in the Punjab? I was talking to Dad and Divdeep about it yesterday. They were saying the scale and splender of the place is almost incomprehenable and that it is a 'living' place that is being used by millions of people every day.
What has been the scaryist and best moment so far? Is the cheapest accomodation the most exciting because its the most risky in run down and exceptionally poor and desparate part of town ? Is it dangerous? I get a bit worried sometimes.
It's a very cold but a very sunny beauiful day here and I've just seen a blue tit pop into the bird box. Jonny is at Parvaaz's house and Dads upstairs sorting out stuff. Thinking of you ,wishing you a safe and happy holiday. All my love Mum xxxx
