The town of Taupo is situated on the North Eastern corner of the huge Lake Taupo, created by a large volcanic eruption, it's said to be about the size of Singapore. Across the lake was a great view of the now extinct volcano, Mt Tongariro. It appeared to be a lot more camper van friendly here (yeahhhhh!) and we noticed quite a few parked up by the lake, the perfect setting for an overnignt stay we thought, plus we had safety in numbers. With the van parked up for the night we headed for the nearest pub, Matt deserved a beer for all his driving! We stayed for a few and watched the sun set in a pink sky until it had disappeared behind the mountain - glorious!
