Arrived in Vang Vieng today on a 'public bus'! Got the bus from Vientiane and we managed to catch the one where all the luggage was kept on the roof! To be honest I'm amazed all our transport has been so good so far. The bus kept stopping in all the little towns so all the passengers could buy food and fish and beer out the window which they did every time! It was so annoying! Also the bus didn't have enough seats for everyone so they just put these lovely plastic stools in the aisle that everyone sat on instead. Was hilarious. Even had a stop along the road where everyone walked into the jungle for a wee! Got to Vang Vieng after about 4 hours, bout 2pm. Checked into hotel and went looking for this tubing lark everyone talks about.
Eventually found the right place and got a tuk tuk up to the river but unfortunately we'd underestimated the price of the inflatable rings and ended up spending most of the money we'd brought with us on those so there was no money left for drinking!
Anyway jumped into the river and started floating down very luxiouriously, passed a few bars but kept going because I insisted there'd be better ones further down the river. There weren't!! After about 30 mins we hit a bar that had a sign saying 'Last Bar!' so we got out fairly lively and ordered a bucket. What else right? Met a load of girls at that bar from NI, South Africa and England. After about an hour or so we got back on the rings and made our way to the end of the river then back to the hostel where it proceeded to PISS rain.
It's absolutley lashing now and the lightning is every min or so. Pink lightning too, which in Asia is bad news! Usually it dies off after an hour or so though so I'll wait and see. Might go back on the beer in a little while. Loving Laos, it's so much quiter then anywhere else we've been and so beautiful!
