There isn't much to see in Pune but one of David's old work mates was back living in there and he wanted to try and meet up.

The accommodation is mind blowingly expensive for the budget traveller. However, we did find a mighty fine hole right next door which did fantastic value tasty food. The people were pretty amused that we came in every day to eat too (being the only whities there!).

It's a strange town, Pune. It's supposed to be the next IT centre of India after Bangalore. There is the contrast of the desperately poor wandering the streets and the usual other things you see, chai stalls, food stalls, cows, rickshaws, garbage, men pissing in the streets, etc. It's dirty and pretty chaotic too but amongst all that there was a shiny new shopping mall type thing. Amazing to see all the top brands there. Gucci, YSL and whatever else. The Ray-Bans were so cheap!! They were the genuine bona fide items too! There were all sorts of shops inside that us westies are used to having at close hand all the time. Even a stationery shop that sold Post-it Notes! Seemed so strange to find this sort of thing when just outside there were little tiny falling down shacks selling traditional Indian street snacks. The clean, air conditioned inside would be so out of reach to so many people here. I guess it's called progress.

I spotted this supermarket looking place (hadn't seen one of those since Kathmandu!) and wandered in for a butchers only to find Arnotts BBQ Shapes!!!!! I was sooooo excited!!! For those of you who are not familiar with this food stuff, it's an Australian savoury bite-size biscuit snack and one of my favourite!! So, not having had any for a lifetime, I just had to buy some!! There were also real European cheeses and an assortment of other exciting items! Also outside was a little café that sold the most amazing chocolate cake!!

David's friend wasn't free and the chocolate cake just wasn't enough to hold us in Pune any longer, so we headed off after two nights.
