Our friend from Sydney was skiing in Italy again and wanted to meet up. He'd already been to London and traveled through some of Europe last year, so we suggested meeting somewhere he hadn't been - Spain. There were some great roman ruins to see there.

David and I got an early flight into Girona and hired a car. Since Z wasn't due in till later that day we decided to have a look around Girona. It's a beautiful old town. Winding little paths and alleyways with lots of balconies and window boxes covered with lush green vines and colourful flowers. We got a map from the tourist office and followed a walk that covered all of the interesting, beautiful older sites. It was lovely. There was an absolutely huge cathedral with an interesting museum. There were some roman baths and we walked a short distance of the old town wall. There was actually loads to see.

London had had really crappy weather too and sky was an incredible cloudless blue. It was great to get some sun! Even had to break out the sunscreen!

There were some fantastic little boutiques with lovely clothes and other interesting shops. Loads of bars. But it was siesta and they were all closed. We found a tapas place on the river and got some food. Great coffee.

We went to pick Z up from the airport and went back into Girona for another walk around and some dinner. We found a kind of Moroccan place but as the Spanish tend to keep late hours they weren't open until 9. So we went for a couple of beers somewhere, then went back for dinner and rioja.

We had a long drive though because we were staying just outside Barcelona. It took bloody ages to find the stupid hotel but we got there eventually and crashed.

Taragona was next with roman ruins at the sea front.
